What I'm drinking in... NEW YORK CITY!

New York City -- While you won't be short of things to do while in the city, you will need some coffee to keep up with the city that never sleeps!  From famous cafes to hidden gems, here's your guide to navigating the concrete jungle for a good cup of joe.

New York City has always been pace-setting and envelope-pushing, in no small part thanks to the crowd now commonly referred to as hipsters, who seem to be perennially establishing what’s cool next.

Three Seat Espresso

If you have a friend/GF/BF into coffee, or simply in the mood for a good cup of joe, bring yourself and/or fellow coffee aficionado to this unassuming yet fantastic Aussie coffee joint in East Village! Located on Ave. A across from Tompkin Square Park, this coffee and barber shop concept offers positive vibes and a cheery yellow aesthetic — including matching yellow coffee cups :)

Named after the three barber seats in the back room, at @threeseatespresso you can get a $30 haircut & complementary cup of coffee, an idea inspired by a conversation between barber Avi Mavlyanov and Bluestone Lane co-founder Aaron Cook over a haircut!

Featuring roasts from third-wave coffee roaster Ceremony Coffee, based in Annapolis, MD

Don’t let me tell you how good it is — get yourself over to Three Seat today!

The best part?

Project Cozy’s collab with NYC local @bibbleandsip = giant cream puffs with mint, matcha, or earl grey filling

Birch Coffee

No WiFi, talk to each other people!! 🚫📱💬

Don’t miss a visit to Birch Coffee in Flatiron, where baristas pride themselves on being approachable in a gourmet coffee culture that might hold it against you if you’ve never heard of fair-trade coffee! It’s NYC quality delivered ASAP, with a splash of friendly 😄☕️

Founders and New York locals Paul & Jeremy source their beans from community-focused micro farms and then roast the coffee themselves in Long Island City, bringing together the perfect combo of coffee culture & good brews.

Editor’s note: My favorite location (shown above) is the Flatiron spot on 27th (right off the 4/5/6!). You won’t regret it.

Nickel & Diner

⚡️Nickel&Diner - NYC’s modern diner ⚡️

Come for the retro vibes. Stay for the good coffee. 😆☕️

What’s on the menu: Think old school diner vibes with a fresh menu of nitro cold brew & kale cashew bowls. Modeled after the 1950s NYC’s five-and-dimes, the space has large vinyl booths and backless stools lined up against a massive lunch counter.

The fabulous espresso bar is well-stocked with Brooklyn-based @nobletree.coffee

Located on the border of Chinatown & the LES and definitely worth a trip for your next downtown brunch or cup of coffee! ☕️

Cafe Grumpy

Maple spice latte, anyone? Try Café Grumpy’s take on a holiday espresso drink ☕️🍁 〰️

Founders Chris Timbrell and Caroline Bell are the couple behind this NYC roaster. They started dating over coffee but, frustrated @ the service, founded a coffeeshop where the service won’t make you grumpy 😤🙄🚫

As their head roaster says, roasting coffee can feel like balancing an elephant on top of a bowling ball. The coffee is the elephant & their vintage coffee roaster is the bowling ball... and Café Grumpy is the force providing balance between the two. 🐘🎱☯️

“Brooklyn” is now a byword for cool from Paris to Sweden to the Middle East. It’s been strange to live across the river from a place that suddenly becomes a cultural reference point — not unlike having your dachshund become an overnight celebrity. Part of you wonders, Why him and not Aunt Barbara?
